The course "SNMP: Network Management and Monitoring” provides brief information on the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), a method of monitoring networks. The OTP SNMP course enlightens basic elements like SMI and MIB, the fundamentals of SNMP operation, and SNMP’s perspective of using two UDP ports, 161 and 162.
At the heart of SNMP are its two primary components. The two primary entities we will explain are the SNMP Manager and SNMP Agent. The Manager is to be incorporated as the Network Management Station or an exclusive monitoring system, and the Agent is to be embedded only on regulated devices and as a software controlling module. A key factor lighter than the Manager is to get hold of data belonging to the Agent so that a packet transfer rate or any change in the network can be checked to get an idea of the network conditions.
Core to SNMP is the Management Information Base (MIB), a structured information base in which important information about managed resources is stored. The most well-known text-based manager is MIB, arranged into eight groups: system, interface, and TCP. Therefore, each SNMP Agent contains its own MIB compiled of all the items that are managed by the Manager to enhance the network's operation and problem-solving.
